Maintenance on Xfire Plus and Custom Xfire Sigs

We are doing some maintenance on our server as we migrate over to a more stable environment. Any text in your Custom Xfire Sig will not display, until we finish migrating. This may take a few more days, but we expect full operation as soon as possible. If you notice anything else out of the ordinary, please post a comment.

  Xfire Plus: 2 years

The xfireplus.com website was started 23th December 2005. So here we are, it has been a whole two years!

Red Ornament with a snowflake In these two years we have tried many different programs and additions that would make Xfire a bit better to use for some people like us. Some of our projects have been made unusable by Xfire updates, some have just plain died from the lack of time to keep them up with other things. Being dependent on other program is not exactly easy for developing your programs, a little change in the host program could mean recoding the whole thing for us.

Still, the oldest and most widely used program of Xfire Plus, the Music Plugin, is still operational and is reaching 90,000 unique users! This would not have been possible without the support of all of our users, so I want to thank all of you in the name of everyone taking part of Xfire Plus development.

A big thanks goes to Xfire too. Their marketing team has been a big fan of our achievements and they even got us the chance to hold an official Xfire Live Chat event which was a lot of fun, by the way.

Myself I would like to thank all the other developers at Xfire Plus for these two years. It has been nice working as a part of this group and I think I am not the only one here that has learned a lot about different programming languages and practices during this time. I'm looking forward on year 2008 and what our collaborating can achieve next year. While we may have been seen as inactive lately, we have been doing progress but cannot just yet disclose many details on what is coming.

So, thank you all of our fans and users, thank you Xfire and thanks to all others supporting our efforts to enhance the best gamer's instant messenger program. Happy holidays and have a nice new year's party, everyone!

What is this?

  Xfire-PHP Updated to v3.0.2

An update for Xfire-PHP has been released, this fixes a small bug with profile, live and game rig data where special characters would cause the rest of the field to be cut off, also the package includes an example for people new to this.

  Xfire-PHP Updated to v3.0.1

A short bug fix has been released, this includes fixes that I needed to update CXS (this fixed the issue where C&C would be reported as CC for example), sorry for not releasing it earlier.

  Update

I know it has been a long time since I've posted and that is because I have been extremely busy. All of our developers are full time students so getting work done is hard. For the most part, most things are on hold, but development may be progressing slowly. Yes, this is a long post, please read it if you are interested in the status of Xfire Plus.

Slowly, I am working on a brand new version of the Music Plugin. Hopefully I can make improvements on the previous version and make sure it works in all cases. I would really like to make a way to allow a customizable way to add music players, but that may have to wait for a later version. If you have any suggestions you would like to see in version 2.0, please make a new thread in the Music Plugin section on the forum with your suggestion (please do not ask to change music while ingame, most players utilize things call hotkeys). On way of the Multi-IM plugin, I fear that AIM support might be indefinetly suspended until one of us has more free time, or better AIM protocol support comes along. I am pushing to get the new version of the MSN plugin out to users, which will hopefully solve alot of problems and make it a little more stable. The type of work the plugin involves is very very complex and it is not easy to make things work right on the first try, or second, or third. Something is always guaranteed to go wrong, so please understand that I would rather release a version that is as close to perfect, than release something that is full of bugs. Most Xfire Plus users are only impressed on the first shot, so I would rather give them a good impression than a bad one.

Xfire-PHP has been updated and is much faster as it only parses the XML feeds into a useable PHP class. I encourage people to utilize this to make their own web apps. If you would like your app showcased on our website, please feel free to contact me on Xfire or via email on the Dev Team page.

The next four programs I would love to continue to support but I fear I must discontinue. IP Launcher, Teamspeak Options, and Ventrilo Options, at their current versions, and Infoview Extensions will no longer be supported or available for download. IP Launcher has been broken almost a few months after it was released and I never had a chance to fix it. It may be replaced when I get time with a better solution. Ventrilo Options is now partially redundant, that one-click join has been added officially to Xfire (thanks to me and persistence). Both TS and Vent Options are largely unsupported and not many people are using it anymore. This probably won't be, but may be redone some time in the future. Infoview Extensions has long been unsupported as there have been many changes to Xfire's infoview and some of the things are now officially supported. If you have ideas you would like to see for a new version of infoview extensions, and is possible to be done, please create a new thread in the Infoview Extensions section.

Custom Game Support, the Xfire Web Messenger, and Custom Xfire Sigs are all working products at this time. Unfortunetly since we are very busy, features and fixes may not be available right away. I would like to encourage you to post a thread on the forums if you feel something is urgent and needs to be fixed. Most of the time it is something on your end, not ours, as thousands of other users have successfully been able to use these products. Please let us know if you would like to see any other features for these products on our forums.

Xfire Streaming News is currently down, and I am unable to get a hold of Jason S, who originally created XFS News. Steve and I eventually plan to rewrite the service and get it back running again, but we are busy so this will take some time. I have only heard great reviews about the service so I too wish it was running.

Lastly, we have a few projects slowly in the works. One of which I would love to share, but it is not yet ready for release. It is a feature requested for a long time and will appeal to those who have wanted it, but probabaly not much more. Xfire Plus Base (our all-in-one), is slowly going through development. This is basically a scriptable platform for you to write custom actions and events onto Xfire. There is no estimated date for this product, but it will be worth it when it is completed.

I would like to thank all of our users again for the wonderful support that you have given us over the almost 2 years we have been around. I love hearing from our userbase, so please feel free to contact me. I prefer email over Xfire adds, but either are fine (you can contact me through the Dev Team page). If you would like to support us, please place our affiliate flash (on our right hand side bar) or tell all your friends about us.

  Custom Xfire Sigs Updated

I've done a little update to CXS, it now includes the newest version of XfirePHP which uses Xfire's XML feeds and should dramatically speed things up.

Also, the status text element will display your custom status providing it exists. If you just want online/offline like before, add the variable CLASSIC_STATUS to a custom text element.

THE OLD XFIRE PAGE DUMPS USED FOR STATS TOTALLED UP TO 425MB!

  Xfire-PHP Update v3.0

I'm pleased to announce that Xfire finally have introduced XML feeds for profile information, a day later I've written, from scratch, an update for Xfire-PHP which reflects the new update. There is a little of backwards compatibility for your old scripts but you may need to make some minor adjustments.

This shouldn't go out of date as quick unless the schema Xfire is using for the feeds changes dramatically.

Please report any bugs on the forums.

  Xfire Streaming News

Hello everybody.

Today we have a completely new service for you, the Xfire Streaming News. Thanks to our newest developer team member Jason Saccatini for coming up with this awesome service that lets you have RSS feeds streamed directly into your Xfire by a special Xfire account you can add to your friends list.

Jason originally published XFSNews in Xfire forums where it received some attention and got the topic stickied. Now we are proud to have him with us in Xfire Plus and to provide this reworked service to all of you!

All you need to use this new service is an XfirePlus account in which you have entered your Xfire username you want to receive the news items to. To read more and start receiving the news items directly to your Xfire, head on to the XFS News page.

Whether you were sitting around, browsing the forums or even playing your favorite games, you will never be late of the latest news again!
