Downloads: Custom Game Support

Author: Xfire Plus ( -email- ) ( http://xfireplus.com/page.php?16 )

The client part of Xfire Plus Custom Game Support.

What's new in 1.4?
  • Custom Game Status - Your Xfire status text will automatically change to show the game name you play if it is not supported by Xfire normally.
  • Fixed a bug where xfire_games.ini would become a bit corrupt (version=0 etc.)
  • Removed the message of completed download if downloading from website links.
  • When doing "Re-download all", you are no longer prompted with download failed message, instead the game entry is removed from cache.
The application settings and log file are created in %appdata%\Xfire Plus\xfcgs\. You can edit the status text formatting from the xfcgsg.ini there (advanced users feature!)

Download the file by clicking the title above. Save the zip file anywhere you want and extract the xfcgsg.exe to any location (it does not matter where, just somewhere you remember).

Start the program once after extraction. Do *not* start the program directly from inside the zip file, it will not work correctly, extract it first!

As it should say on the first time, go to File-menu and choose Register. That integrates the program with your web browsers so you can download the custom game entries easily from this website (link on the left panel).

To add a new custom game or patch to Xfire, go to Custom Games page, find the game you want and click the Download link on the line. It should launch the client program which will then download the game codes form our database and automatically apply them to Xfire.

Once you have downloaded the code, go to Xfire's Games options (Tools -> Options -> Games) and apply the newly added custom game there by telling Xfire the path the game is installed to.

For more functionality, start the executable directly from the folder you extracted it to. On the Games-menu you have four options to choose from:
Add new games
Will launch your default web browser to the Custom Games page
Re-download all
This makes the tool download all the custom game codes and icons again from our site. It will only download those which you have downloaded before.
Update to Xfire
This applies all the custom game codes back to Xfire. This is very useful after Xfire updates since the updates normally overwrite all custom codes you have done. This menu item adds all them back.
Remove from Xfire
In case you for some reason want to remove the custom games from Xfire, this menu option does just that. Note that if you have downloaded any game detection patches, those games might fail to be detected after this menu option, since removing the patches likely removes some crucial data of the base detection as well.

The custom games added to Xfire will *not* be shown to other people when you play the games. The games will also *not* appear in your Xfire profile page and no hours are logged for them. This is due to the design Xfire wants it. To make the above things possible, there must be done changes on Xfire's server software, nothing we here in Xfire Plus can do about.

The main purpose currently is to make you able to launch the games easily from Xfire's tray icon and possibly chat in the games (one of Xfire's main features).

This Tool does not longer work for me. It either leaves a "xfire_games.ini_TEMP.tmp" or creates a "xfire_games.ini" with no content but the custom games.
